About GreenTracer
Making web emissions visible
Every web page uses energy each time someone loads it. Most of that is invisible to the people who run websites. GreenTracer is a free checker that makes it visible, and easy to understand.

Why it exists
A clear answer, not a lecture
Most website owners want to do the right thing, but it is hard to know where to start. Carbon figures are often buried in jargon, or presented with more certainty than they deserve.
GreenTracer gives you three plain answers for a public page: its estimated emissions per page view, a carbon grade from A+ to F, and whether your host is listed as green. Then it suggests up to three changes, based on what we actually measured.
The results are estimates, not meter readings. We explain exactly how they are made on How it works, and what each grade means on the rating page.
What we stand for
Honest numbers, openly made
Open, published methods
We use the Sustainable Web Design Model v4 and The Green Web Foundation's dataset. Both are public, so anyone can check how a result was reached.
We show our working
Every report explains its inputs: the page weight we measured, the hosting result, and the factors we applied.
Every claim tied to evidence
Improvements come from measured Lighthouse findings on your page. Badges link back to the report they came from.
Plain about the limits
If a page can't be measured, we say so and save nothing. If a host isn't listed as green, we say that too.
Who runs it
Operated by BuzzBoost Ltd
GreenTracer is run by BuzzBoost Ltd and is currently in beta. That means the checker is free and working, and we are still refining it. Service details are in the Terms and how we handle data is in the Privacy Policy.
Questions about a report: hello@buzzboost.co.uk. Privacy questions: hello@buzzboost.co.uk. Common questions are answered in the FAQ.
What's next
Improving carefully
During the beta we are focused on making results clearer and more reliable, and on making it easier to act on them. When the method changes, we publish the new version, so results can always be traced back to how they were made.
If something in a report looks wrong, or could be explained better, we would like to hear about it.
